A little series of monsters done for each day in the first week of April. Unlike a similar project of mine, these critters aren't based on any particular myths and stories but instead on common creature design elements.
April Ghouls! '18
Tentacle Eyeball
Ms. Eyedentifeye is a professional guardian, who defends her charge by simply staring at any troublemakers (she's quite intimidating). Most of the time she's not even awake, having taught herself at an early age how to sleep with her eye open!
Walking Carpet
How much of him do you suppose is actually, like, him? Instead of just hair and wattles, I mean.
Brain and Brawn
One's a clever little salamander, the other a mighty kappa, together they menace fishermen by tying their lines to old boots, stealing all their delicious bait, and quaking like a duck behind their backs. The pair dream of terrorizing all of Minnesota's 10,000 lakes, but alas, even working together neither of them can bear being outside of water very long.
Sickening Slime
A perfectly natural defensive behavior, to be sure, though Mucus Lucas' anxiety means he's nearly always coated in the stuff. He's grown weirdly fond of the gunk, however, considering it something of a security blanket.
Twofaced
They are of two minds about everything... except that humans are quite tasty. Of course, they're so indecisive on how to prepare their meal that oftentimes dinner simply skips out on them. Oh bother.
Pale Troglobite
Many don't think too highly of living in the sewers, but having to deal with packs of rats, flushed reptiles, and the occasional sanitation worker is no joke! Trogy avoids most of these threats by clinging to the ceiling and scaring them off with burbles that echo down the pipes... which sometimes bounce their way backwards and frighten poor Trogy.
Lure
Lorelei's siren ancestors used their melodious voices to attract prey by the shipfull, but it's hard to be heard in the city so Lorey's had to adapt. She doesn't quite get why humans love green paper in brown leather pouches so much, but it puts food on her table so she can't complain.
